This week my partner and I spent a couple of hours working on getting the base coat up in our kitchen. It was a lot quicker and more bearable than painting the room by myself and let me tell you… I’m so happy the first part of the kitchen is done.
We’re thinking of painting the kitchen a bright yellow since the wall “stickers” or whatever you call them are a bit orangy and the cabinets are brown. We’re thinking of using a purple highlight on outlets and the frame of the doors, but we’re going to leave those details for last.
I’ll admit, I haven’t watched any “painting tutorials” and I probably should have, but today I practiced filling in the sides of the wall with a hand brush. Honestly, mine isn’t the greatest. I feel like whatever this brush was, it didn’t paint smooth and I should probably look into getting a better one, especially since I’ll be painting the whole apartment soon.
It’s nice to see the gross dirt on the walls disappear with a fresh coat of paint, and while my mom kept telling me that we would love the place as soon as the fresh coat was up, I didn’t fully believe her. I guess she must have experienced something similar when she moved into our childhood home.
We’re also thinking of making cute design choices in each of the rooms. As mentioned, we think we want to rim this door with purple and then paint the door itself the yellow that’s on the walls. Something bright and light and maybe even stencil pantry onto the door or something cute. Now that this place is 100% ours, we can really make some big decisions.
I have a cute stencil idea I want to do with the big walls pictured above, I just don’t know how cheesy it would be. I have to still pick fonts I would use, but my partner thinks it’s quite an adorable idea.
Otherwise, I’m so happy with how the kitchen looks so far (even though it’s all white!). I think next weekend we’re going to go pick up the paint and we’ll get this room done. I just have to decide are we going to be doing the living room next or a simple room like my office?
What would your suggestion be? If you were to paint your whole house, would you do the more difficult rooms first or last?
