Today I spent some time with my parents and I asked if they had any extra paint hanging around their condo. To my surprise, they actually had a bucket of yellow paint.
I wasn’t too sure if this was the yellow we wanted for the kitchen, so I thought… hey why not surprise my partner by painting the door, see if he likes the colour?
At first, I was going to do it with rollers, but then I thought… well let’s see what painting with this paintbrush looks like. (I wanted to see how hard it was to paint solidly on the wall). Midway through painting, I changed my mind and wanted to paint a texture on the door.
My partner and I have talked about painting the walls a solid colour, the trim of the door a colour and then the door the colour of the wall. I personally wanted the door to be a different shade than the walls, but my partner thought that would look weird and people would question if it was a mistake. Well, the right is a picture of what the door looks like with the texture, but the picture really doesn’t do it justice. In person the door looks like it has wood markings all over it and has about 4 or 5 shades of yellow just by layering the paint.
If someone has any advice for how to take a better picture of the door, let me know!
When my partner came home I surprised him with the door, which he absolutely loved. He seemed shocked that I was able to paint the door so well and has given me the go-ahead to paint the rest of the kitchen. He wants me to paint the whole kitchen with this texture, but I’m not a huge fan of that. I think it works for the door as it adds an accent, but it all across the walls is too much.
Either way, what do you think about the door? Also… best life hack… so good I had to make a gif…
