It’s a pretty insane thought, but we moved again. After only living a few months in our old place, we decided to move out of it to find a bigger space that was suitable for us and our animals.
Our old condo was amazing, but with the cats running around, our chinchilla needing a lot of space and me having to work from home… we needed to upsize a little bit…
So, we found a new place and while it needs some love and care, it’s a pretty awesome place! I’m going to keep this blog updated with the renovations we do to this place and hopefully share some of the cool things we’re hoping to do, but let’s start off with our empty apartment.
Above is our bedroom. It’s pretty huge. Honestly, it’s a bit too big for us, but I’m sure we can find something to do with it. It’s a perfect size to throw in a cat tree… or two!
Our bedroom is connected to a washroom that was converted to an “accessible” shower room. Not really the most ideal for us, so we may actually change it into a full functioning washroom at some point. Right now it’s also a storage room and a litter box room for the kitties.
I have my own walk-in closet which will double as a storage closet. The one thing this place isn’t lacking is storage space. Although not pictured we also have a linen-closet and a large laundry room with shelving units.
Right off the front door is our living room. We do have some wasted space hallways, but they’re not so bad as other units we’ve seen in the past. The door you see is my closet and in front of it is the linen closet.
Our living room is massive! Similar to the first one we had and we don’t know what to put in it. I’m thinking of using the section of wall for a cat obstacle course I want to build or some sort of storage we can use that the cats can play on (like cubbies), but we have nothing in mind right now. As you can see there are pieces of drywall missing from parts of the living room (as well as most other room in the house), so one of our first things on the to-do-list is patching them up and paint them.
It’s nothing too serious and I’m sure we can find an affordable painter to do it. Oddly I tried to get two contracting companies to give me an estimate and they both didn’t show up to the place… weird, right?
Our kitchen is also a “needs a fix” area. The facings are all really nice, it’s just… not a functional kitchen. K, my dad and I have been taking some time putting handles back on doors, fixing drawers so they don’t open each other up, trying to see why elements on the stove don’t work, etc, etc, etc. Again, it shouldn’t be too much work, it’s just scary to think that they aren’t actually that old. When we were looking into this place the ad stated “newly renovated kitchen.” …Yeah right.
What’s cool about this place is K gets his own office this time! We originally thought about making this room a second bedroom for guests, but we quickly changed our minds since our only guest would probably be my sister and her husband, but they haven’t visited us since moving to the UK… so… sorry guys! K gets his own office! The only twist is… remember my large desk we had at our old place? Well, half of it is here now and it will double as our filing cabinet and where I write all of my Pets Overload articles, so I’m not distracted by video games like Final Fantasy XIV. What is it about those addictive beast tribe missions?
I still have an amazing office, and K so graciously let me have the room with the biggest windows and French Doors. Every room in this place has an amazing view, they just have smaller windows. The view is what sold us on this place. Being someone who works from home, I need to make sure I enjoy sitting at the computer and this flood of trees definitely hits the spot. You can actually even see the CN Tower from my window (although this picture doesn’t really show it off.)
Our windows are set to be replaced sometime this year because they don’t abide by condo regulations (ie. they don’t have screens so they need to be replaced), but luckily the building is going to cover that. Cue the sigh of relief.
And last but not least, our balcony has been converted into a sunroom. Another huge selling point of this place is the fact that we have a nice cozy space for our friends to come over and play board games. After we fix the floorboards and fix what seems to be cracks that cause leaks, we’re going to throw a nice cozy carpet in here where you can lie down and look at the stars.
I’m excited about this room the most, and can’t wait to have late nights drinking wine and chatting with friends.
I’ll give you a better update in a few days with all of our stuff. We’ve basically unpacked everything, we just have to make sure it’s all put in a tidy order.
