So here it is! Our yellow kitchen! I mean, it’s not fully painted just yet (we still need to re-paint the baseboards white and we need to fix the trimming on the door/vents.)
Painting today took us longer than it did last time, especially because we had a hard time with streaking. I think the issue had to do with the paint being fairly old as well as… well just the inexperience of painting! I’d say to get the whole kitchen done we spent about 4-hours or so (including the time we waited for the paint to dry).
As mentioned, we still need to trim this door with green, but I’m absolutely loving the streaking I did on the door. It makes the door feel like an accent in the kitchen, which is awesome since we were originally going to play around with accent walls… now we don’t need to! I think we’re going to do something similar with the rest of the doors in our apartment, but we’ll just have to wait and see!
We had a lot of trouble when it came to peeling off the painters tape from the wall. My partner thinks it’s because he didn’t line the ceiling properly and since we had painted over it with primer well… it peeled off our freshly painted walls. Quite the surprise for us, but it’s making me want to make sure we’re painting properly just to make sure that this doesn’t happen again.
As you can see the peeling happened all over and after a few tries of peeling the tape at different speeds we had to come up with a better way to peel off the tape. (Again, I’m dumb for not looking into the best ways to peel off the tape, but hey… learning opportunity!)
I thought it might be a good idea to use a straight edge to cut the section between the tape and wall or at least give it enough friction so the two would separate from each other and it worked really well! So, that’s something we’ll carry forward when painting other rooms.
All in all, it was a fairly easy day today painting. We repainted the parts that peeled off with a regular artist brush and the kitchen is looking amazing! Now time to pick up the paint for the rest of the house!
